Every year, BLICKFANG searches for exceptional labels that unite fresh ideas, craftsmanship, and visionary design. Particularly promising newcomers receive a subsidized exhibition space through the D.E.S.I.G.N. Foundation as part of the Future Forward award. This enables young talents to present their creative concepts to a broad audience and demonstrate how contemporary design brings together responsibility, innovation, and aesthetics.

This year in Basel, we are delighted to celebrate two winners: LUHA.WOOD from Zurich and sarakele studio from Budapest.

LUHA.WOOD

LUHA.WOOD is a joinery workshop based in Zurich-Wollishofen, specializing in custom-made solid wood furniture with the highest standards of quality, sustainability, and craftsmanship. Only certified Swiss wood is used, processed in close collaboration with regional partners.

A standout piece is the papillon tabouret—a stool that reduces form, function, and material to their essence. Crafted from solid Swiss wood, grain patterns, knots, and subtle imperfections are deliberately left visible, allowing each piece to tell its own story. The clear construction avoids unnecessary materials: two angled wooden elements are assembled without tools, creating a stable and versatile seating solution suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces. Each piece is handcrafted in Zurich, ensuring short transport routes, transparent origins, and a conscious use of resources.

sarakele studio

Sára Kele works at the intersection of sustainable materials, craftsmanship, and contemporary furniture and interior design. Her work combines local production, traditional techniques, and innovative manufacturing methods. Sustainability is approached holistically—from material selection and production processes to durability and long-term use. Functionality is always central, complemented by a warm, playful design language.

At BLICKFANG Basel, Sára Kele presents the ZERO Collection. Inspired by a collaboration with the carpenters of MOA Woodman, she transforms felled trees—lost to disease or natural forces—into tables where both tabletop and legs are crafted from the same plank. Zero-waste principles meet clear, organic forms that place the natural beauty of the wood center stage. Each piece tells a story: of breakage and renewal, crafted from solid woods such as ash, elm, or oak—durable, individual, and full of character.
